Periodontal surgery

Periodontal surgery uses special tools to remove bacteria from beneath your gums, reshape the bones that support your teeth, and prevent future damage.

There are several types of periodontal surgery. After an oral exam, a review of your dental records, and a series of X-rays, your Lakeside Family Dental provider can develop a custom treatment plan.

Frenectomy

Frenectomy is an outpatient procedure that releases the lingual frenulum –– a piece of tissue that attaches the tongue to the floor of the mouth. 

If your child’s lingual frenulum is too tight or too short, it can affect their ability to eat and speak. Frenectomy can significantly improve your child’s quality of life.

Socket preservation

If you need an extraction, Lakeside Family Dental might recommend socket preservation to prevent bone loss. During socket preservation, your dentist inserts a bone graft into the socket where your permanent tooth used to be. Once placed, the graft encourages the production of new and healthy bone tissue.

Bone grafts (bone regeneration)

A bone graft (or bone regeneration) is similar to socket preservation. The difference is that bone grafts are used to strengthen your jaw or alveolar bone instead of an empty socket. Lakeside Family Dental might recommend a bone graft if you want dental implants, but don’t have enough healthy bone to support them.
